Empowering Peer & Māori Workforce Development Across Aotearoa Ko wai matau Te Ara ō Tāwhaki is an organisation dedicated to developing and uplifting the lived experience workforce through culturally grounded, strengths-based training and supervision/reflective practice. We are committed to empowering whānau by honouring lived experience, upholding tikanga, and embedding values of whanaungatanga, manaakitanga, and kaitiakitanga into all aspects of our mahi. Based in Tauranga and available across Aotearoa, we provide impactful, experiential wānanga designed for those working in addiction, mental health, and whānau/communitybased roles.

Ngā Pou: Peer Foundations
2 Days | $800 + GST/day No prerequisites required
Ngā Pou is a comprehensive introduction to peer support practice. This training explores the
essential values and ethics of peer work — including interaction, hauora, cultural
responsiveness, self-awareness, and intentional use of lived experience.

M.O.R.F: A Guide for Peer Support
1 Day | $800 + GST Ngā Pou or other peer training recommended prior
M.O.R.F is a practical, hands-on training to strengthen peer practice. Using the M.O.R.F guide, whānau learn how to navigate conversations and extend their engagements past the rapport building and goal setting stages.
M.O.R.F will elevate peers in their practice, supporting them in skillfully applying their lived experience to build meaningful pathways in their interactions. It will also strengthen kaimahi skills, enabling them to ignite the ambitions and focus of the people they serve.

Te Rārangi: Finding Your Line

Within the training we will explore emotional, physical, cultural, and spiritual boundaries through our peer lens.
Utilsing real world scenarios, wānanga-style reflection, and discussion support kaimahi to work safely and sustainably.

This wānanga supports peer workers to document their mahi in a way that is clear, empowering,
and aligned with peer values. Learn how to write “with, not about” whaiora, uphold privacy, and
reflect lived experience ethically.

Whakarata i te Ahi: Calming the Fire

Whakarata i te ahi is an experiential training supporting peer workers to navigate escalated or high-stress moments through relational, trauma-informed, and culturally safe approaches. Focuses on connection
over control, using presence, language, and self-awareness.
